Course is aimed at existing gas engineers or ACS approved gas operatives including newly qualified ACS engineers, who are looking to enhance their practical skills with further technical support on boiler maintenance, fault finding and repair.
Avoid wasting the client’s money throwing cash at boilers because you have misdiagnosed the fault and looking incompetent to the customer. What you need is to be able gather detailed information, work on a cause and effect scenario and use a comprehensive logic sequence to determine the fault.
We will train you how take shortcuts in determining the fault and how to use a combination of tools which you probably don’t possess in your kit to make your life as a diagnostic engineer easier. You need to be able understand what are good readings and what are bad readings and what tolerances we work to and how do we work safely complying with the Health and Safety at work act, Electricity at work regulations and staying in line with BS7671 by ensuring we follow safe isolation procedures and our equipment complies with GS38.
We will look at all components on the bench and talk about them in explicit detail using schematics on the board and analogies combined with a friendly training environment which will ensure even the newest engineer grasps the testing techniques.
We have trained engineers with over 30 years’ experience with some of our customers from a major British Gas company who have put their diagnostic laptops aside and left with more skills than they came with.
Some of the training will encompass testing Negative/Positive temperature co-efficient thermistors, Water pressure switch, diverter valve, Air pressure switch, Flue flow sensor, Fans, Pump, Capacitors, Diodes, Relays, Resistors, Actuators, Flow switches, Flame rectification, Condense and FSDs all with your multimeter.
Our skilled trainers are still currently in the field and have their own Gas Safe license so have latest knowledge and experience on the ‘tools’. Any good engineer will know how valuable this is to have another engineer showing you how as opposed to a PowerPoint, nice food and trying to sell you a brand of boiler.
Doing this course will lead you nicely into our popular optional day 2 course which is fault finding on Y-Plan, C-Plan, W-Plan, S-Plan, S-plan plus, U-Plan, Room stats, Cylinder stats, Control wiring, Frost stats, Pipe stats, Programmers and wireless stats. This course is a MUST for engineers working on systems with motorised valves and gives engineers that ‘EUREKA’ moment when that grey cloud of wiring turns into child’s play.
You will be trained in the following:
• Fault finding logic sequence
• Can trace a fault from a particular point in boilers start up sequence
• Fully understand the interlocks and how to diagnose the faults using a multimeter
• Test down to component level to measure resistance to determine a good / bad scenario
• Determine a PCB fault
• Understand a flame rectification fault
• Spark electrode fault • Test a pump with your multimeter
• Diagnose a faulty air pressure switch • Test a high limit stat
• Relays, Capacitator, Resistors and Diodes
• Fan faults
• Diverter valve faults
• Gas valve operational testing including coil testing
• Negative and positive temperature coefficient thermistors
All Candidates will be assessed through practical observation in a friendly environment
