Since July 2018, anyone who works on electrical installations, designs and repairs must work in accordance with the updated IET 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS7671). The 18th Edition Wiring Regulations training and assessment is available as a comprehensive course taken over 5 days – ideal for new entrants – or for those with the latest 17th Edition (BS7671:2015) accreditations, the 1-day top-up course can be taken.
Who is this course for?
These wiring regulations must always be a reference point for any electrical work, so anyone who works on electrics is eligible to take this course. This includes builders, gas engineers, kitchen fitters and bathroom fitters, as well as electricians.
On the 1-day top-up course, the revised sections of the Wiring Regulations are covered in the morning and the 2-hour assessment in the afternoon.
Anyone undertaking this course will need a copy of the IET 18th Edition Wiring Regulations blue book, seen here on the IET website.
Why train with us?
Knowledge of the 18th Edition is necessary to join a Competent Persons Scheme along with the Part P, or as it’s known now: domestic electrical installation (DEI). Knowledge of the 18th Edition needs to be proven and this course is the easiest way to do so. Anyone wishing to become a Registered Electrician, and therefore attain an Installation or Maintenance Electrician gold card must also have a formal 18th Edition qualification, along with an NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent accreditation).
These wiring regulations were released in July 2018, and candidates had until January 2019 to become familiar with the regulations in order to install electrics according to the new regulations from January onwards. Anyone working in the industry had until 1st July 2019 to become fully qualified. Anyone new to the industry, or who missed the deadline can still become qualified with this course.
