Air Source Heat Pump

About this course

This suite of three new regulated qualifications was updated in association with the Heat Pump Association, industry, and MCS. They are designed for learners from a heating background (wet central heating systems) to demonstrate knowledge in the installation and maintenance of Heat Pump Systems (non-refrigerant circuits).

Intensive 3-day training course covering:

  • Level 3 Award in the Installation and Maintenance of Heat Pump Systems (non-refrigerant circuits). LCL Awards
  • Level 3 Award in the Installation and Maintenance of Air Source Heat Pump Systems (non-refrigerant circuits) LCL Awards

Prerequisites

To enrol on this qualification, learners must meet one of the following requirements:

  1. Hold a Level 2 or Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in:
    • Plumbing
    • Heating & Ventilating (Domestic, Industrial or Commercial)
    • Gas Installation & Maintenance
    • Oil-Fired Technical Services
  2. OR be an experienced heating installer with proven competence in the installation of wet central heating systems (e.g. Gas Safe, OFTEC, MCS or HETAS registered).


In addition, learners should hold current certification in:

  • Water Regulations/Water Bylaws
  • G3 Unvented Hot Water Systems (Approved Document G3), where applicable

Please note: This qualification covers the installation and maintenance of air source heat pump systems (non-refrigerant circuits only). It does not permit work on refrigerant circuits. Anyone carrying out refrigerant handling, commissioning, leak testing or servicing of refrigerant systems must also hold the appropriate F-Gas/Refrigerant Handling qualification

Assessment method

LCL Awards set and marked, multiple-choice knowledge online examination(s), and LCL Awards set and AC marked performance assessment(s).
