The ACS Initial is suited for candidates who have passed their Get to Gas with a signed off portfolio, and also for those candidates whose gas qualifications have been expired for more than 12 months.
It is illegal to work on any gas installations or gas appliances in the UK unless you are Gas Safe Registered. You cannot become Gas Safe Registered without your CCN1 certificate (of which obtained through this qualification).
You can also apply to take the ACS Initial assessment if you are a gas operative whose gas qualifications (CCN1, CPA1, CENWAT, HTR1, CKR1) have been expired for more than 12 months. Due to your lack of recent relevant experience, you are required to take this assessment to certify that you are safe and compliant in the industry. Rules and regulations in the industry are constantly updated and therefore it would be unsafe to continue working in the industry without correct and recent knowledge.
Candidates can also add individual appliances (CPA1, CENWAT, HTR1, CKR1) through the ACS Initial on the production of an ACS CCN1 certificate. This is ideal for those candidates who wish to expand their scope of work into different areas of the gas industry. Please note, the ACS Initial covers the assessment only, NOT the training. If further training is required for additional individual appliances, this will be subject to an additional cost.
CCN1
Domestic Core Gas Safety enables you to register with Gas Safe and add on any further appliances, as detailed below.
CPA1
This is now part of the CCN1 core and reassessment criteria for assessment. If you have still not completed your CPA1, your CENWAT and HTR1 module will be deemed as void and you will not be permitted to carry out work on these appliances.
CENWAT
Enables you to work on open-flued, room-sealed and floor standing models. The old CEN & WAT1 ACS modules have been combined forming the CENWAT which now enables you to work on a range of water heaters too. You will be adjusting, servicing and be able to identify faults where they do not comply with the manufacturer’s instructions.
HTR1
If you’re planning on working with fires whether servicing, installing or doing landlord certificates, this ACS covers flueless fires, inset live fuel effect fires and radiant fires. You will be able to determine satisfactory installation, carry out chimney tests and ensure catalytic converters are functioning correctly.
CKR1
Install, exchange, disconnect, service, repair, breakdown and commission domestic gas cooking appliances.
• A candidate must hold a qualification that is recognised by the Accreditation Certification Scheme (Get to Gas/MLP/NVQ).
• A candidate must have experience within the gas industry for a minimum of 6 months. Providing they can show evidence and have a portfolio confirmed with photographic and witness declarations, they may sit the ACS Initial Assessment.
Practical and written test, plus multiple choice question tests.
