About This Course

Our Pathway to Domestic Natural Gas course certified by Blueflame Certification, is an entry level course to become a Gas Engineer. By following the 3 steps below, you will be able to gain the qualifications and experience required to be Gas Safe qualified.

Our students complete an intensive 7-week training course:

  • Training on aspects of health and safety relevant within the gas industry, including asbestos awareness
  • Training to work safely around electrical systems
  • Training in the use of copper and low carbon steel so that your pipe skills are established at an accept able standard
  • Training on heating controls, airing cupboard and radiators installation practices
  • Training in all areas of domestic gas safety
  • This training meets the requirements of IGEM/IG/1

Get trainings Get to Gas training pathway meets all requirements set by the Blue Flame awarding body and the standards of IGEM/UP/1B

  • 7 Weeks 1 Centre Training.
  • Domestic Gas Safety, Legislation and standards procedures.
  • Installations of Gas and Plumbing Pipework in Domestic Properties.
  • Working with copper and low carbon steel pipe skills including pipe bending, leaded and non-leaded soldering, jointing and threading.
  • Installation of Domestic Gas Meters. 
  • Purging, pressure testing and tightness testing of Gas Pipework.
  • Gas rating of Domestic Gas Appliance.
  • Learning and applying Core Safety practises and procedures across, Combustion, Ventilations, chimneys, flues and the safety controls of different gas appliances.
  • Looking at Unsafe Situations and emergency notices.
  • Installation, servicing and fault finding of Domestic Gas Appliance: System and Combi Boilers, Gas Cookers, Water Heaters, Gas Fires and Space Heaters.
  • Operating of a flue gas analyser.
  • Heating System Design. Including wet central heating systems, open, vented and pressurised systems.
  • Working with different forms of Hot Water Storage Cylinders,
  • Safe Isolation Electrical Safety Procedures.
  • Electrical Dead Testing and Live Testing.
  • S & Y Plan Heating controls.

Assessment Method

There are 9 written exams and 5 practical assessments throughout the training course. On completion of this our students will start to compile a portfolio of 40 jobs before they can take their ACS Initial exam.
