Domestic Electrical Installer

About this course

For operatives who perform domestic electrical installations as a secondary task or wish to offer full electrical installations in domestic properties as a stand-alone task. Suitable for experienced operatives in roles like heating installers, bathroom/kitchen fitters, and builders, or whose main role is domestic electrical installations/maintenance.

Not designed to make a non-qualified/non-trade person into an electrician, but to provide a greater understanding of health and safety requirements when working with electricity.

Intensive 5-day training course covering:

  • Electrical Safety legislation, Regulations Standards and Terminology
  • Applicable Building Regulations for Domestic Electrical Installations
  • Domestic Electrical Circuit Design Specifications
  • Domestic Electrical Installation Pre-Work Survey/Risk Assessments
  • Installing Domestic Electrical Circuits
  • Domestic Electrical Earthing and Bonding Requirements
  • Identification of Mains Position Components and Protective Devices
  • Safe Isolation Procedures
  • Inspecting, Testing and Commissioning Single Phase Domestic Electrical Circuits
  • Special Locations and Installations
  • Identification of Unsafe Domestic Electrical Situations
  • Recording of Electrical Test Results, Completion of Certification and Notification Requirements
  • Basic Understanding of 3 Phase Supplies

Prerequisites

Designed for operatives who carry out electrical work as a secondary task (e.g., heating installers, bathroom and kitchen fitters, builders, domestic appliance fitters/installers). Can also be used for operatives undertaking electrical work not notifiable under Building Regulations.

Assessment method

Observed practical tasks, a design scenario, and a 40-question online assessment.
