It is illegal to work on gas installations or appliances in the UK without being Gas Safe registered and holding a valid, recent ACS CCN1 and appliances qualification.

  • CCN1 – Domestic Core Gas Safety, enabling Gas Safe registration and work on any gas appliance.
  • CPA1 – Now part of the CCN1 core and reassessment criteria; not completing CPA1 voids CENWAT and HTR1 modules.
  • CENWAT – Enables work on open flued, room sealed, and floor standing models, including adjusting, servicing, and fault identification for water heaters.
  • HTR1 – Covers flueless fires, inset live fuel effect fires, and radiant fires for servicing, installing, or landlord certificates; includes determining satisfactory installation, chimney tests, and catalytic converter function.
  • CKR1 – Install, exchange, disconnect, service, repair, breakdown, and commission domestic gas cooking appliances.
  • Must hold a qualification recognised by the Accreditation Certification Scheme (Get to Gas/NVQ).
  • Minimum 6 months experience in the gas industry, with evidence and a portfolio confirmed by photographic and witness declarations, to sit the ACS Initial Assessment.
  • Candidates can add appliances on production of an ACS CCN1 certificate.
