Theory Course: 6 months (1 week per month, with 2 weeks in the final month)

Intensive 7-week training covering health and safety in the gas industry (including asbestos awareness), working safely around electrical systems, use of copper and low carbon steel for pipe skills, heating controls, air cupboard and radiator installation practices, all areas of domestic gas safety, and installation, servicing, and repairs on gas boilers, gas cookers and gas fires. Modules and topics including cutting and measuring copper tube, pipe-work preparation and soldering techniques, X and Y dimension calculations, assembling and soldering practice frames, assembling and jointing compression fittings, use of joining pastes, cutting and trading low carbon steel pipe, jointing steel pipe, use of different fittings, pipework testing to 3 bar for 3 minutes, hot and cold water theory, heating controls theory, different types of heating systems and controls, fixing simulated combination boiler jig, fixing necessary pipework, running pipework under floors, marking out and fixing radiators, and water testing.

Domestic Gas Portfolio Building: Complete alongside theory in 6 months

Requires proving competence on various aspects of gas under the supervision of a Gas Safe registered engineer. A portfolio detailing gas work with photographic evidence and engineer's signature is completed. Placement can be arranged by Get Training for a charge. Assistance is offered to ensure timely portfolio completion. Job interview opportunities and work references can be provided. Alternatively, candidates can find their own Gas registered engineer.

ACS CCN1 Initial (5 Days) (Additional £1,350):

Must be completed before Gas Safe registration for operatives involved in installation, maintenance, and servicing of domestic gas appliances and pipe-work. Initial assessment covers gas safety regulations, British standards, manufacturer's instructions, emergency procedures, warning notices, unsafe situations and documentation, combustion, gas rates, burner/installation pressures, pipework and fittings, testing for tightness, purging and relighting appliances, operation of appliance gas safety devices and controls, ventilation, flueing standards, installation and testing. Other modules include CENWAT 1 (Central heating boilers & water heaters),CKR1 (Domestic cookers), HTR1 (Gas fires & water heaters), and CPA1 (Combustion performance analysis). Upon successful completion and certification, details are uploaded to the Gas Safe register, allowing registration as a sole trader or by the employer. Work on gas appliances is not permitted without registration.
